**Weekly Homework**
Students will be assigned daily homework of reading, math, social studies and sometimes science. Homework is a reinforcement of daily work done in class, so nothing will be “new”. Students are expected to read at least 60 minutes every night, however their reading stamina is expected to increase as the year goes on. Students should be writing every night to express their understanding of the story they’ve read. Each student should write no less than one page. A reading log will be sent home daily that parents are expected to sign. If a homework assignment is not completed, the child must complete it during their free time as well as over the weekend. Homework is very important in reinforcing the day’s lessons!! Here is a sample of the daily homework:
Reading
Read daily for 50 minutes. Record on reading log. All reading logs must be signed and returned. Respond in your reader response journals.
Spelling
Monday- Write each word in alphabetical order
Tuesday- Write each word 3x each
Wednesday- Use each word in a sentence
Thursday- Write each word 5x each
Friday- Spelling Test
Math
Math Journal pages will be assigned based on daily assignments
Here are some tips to help your child with homework:
* Help your child establish a homework time everyday.
* Provide a quiet, well-lit place where there will be little interruption.
* Most importantly...Encourage your child to do their best work and put forth their best effort.
